Excursions Delhi
Sohna Hills
Sohna Hills is situated at a distance of 56 km from Delhi. The
name "Sohna" literally means gold. The place got this name from
the gold dust that was once collected from the sands of streams
flowing around it. There is also a pretty health-cum-holiday
resort in Sohna Hills, near Delhi. Standing atop the Aravalli
hills, the resort offers a breathtaking view of the landscape
below. On the adjacent hill, is a ruined fortress, once a
stronghold of local chieftains. Delhi Sohna Hills is the perfect
place to get some break from the routine stressful life of the
cities.
Damdama Lake
Damdama Lake is situated at a distance of approximately 56 km to
the south east of Delhi. A three hours drive, Dum Duma Lake, near
Delhi, is a nice place for having fun and adventure. Located near
the Aravalli Hills, this lake is your best bet for rock climbing.
Also, Delhi Dumdama Lake is the perfect place to go for boating.
Other activities that can be undertaken at this lake include
canoeing, kayaking and angling. A popular picnic spot, it also
boasts of an island inside it that houses Water Resort. The resort
has 15 independent cottages that have been designed keeping in
mind the ethnic style of the Indian villages.
Badkhal Lake Near Delhi
The Badkhal Lake is situated in Faridabad, at a distance of
approximately 32 km from Delhi. With the Aravalli hills on the
periphery, the Badkhal Lake presents a picturesque sight. A
30-minutes drive, Badkal Lake, near Delhi, is very famous for its
water sports like boating, canoeing, kayaking, etc. There is also
a luxury yacht for those with an adventurous nature. Badhkal Lake
is noted for its tranquility, along with the small cottages that
have been built at an elevated ground.
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary
Situated in the neighbouring state of Haryana, it takes about 50
minutes by taxi to get to Sultanpur, 47km (29 miles) from Delhi.
The small lake and marshland is best visited between November and
March when migratory birds, including the greater flamingo, along
with bare-headed and Brahminy ducks from Tibet, flock to the
verdant sanctuary.
Surajkund
Also in Haryana, the ruins of Suraj Kund are just 16km (10 miles)
from the outskirts of Delhi, a journey of about half an hour by
taxi. Its 10th-century amphitheatre is the only great Hindu shrine
left intact by invading Muslims. The shrine is surrounded by
tranquil parklands and a small artificial boating lake and is a
popular Sunday lunch picnic destination for middle-class Indian
families.
Ballabgarh Lake
Ballabgarh Lake is situated at a distance of approximately 36 km
from Delhi. Located along the Delhi-Mathura Road, this tourist
resort is famous for picnicking, holidaying and fishing.

Jaipur: Jaipur
is 260 km from Delhi and forms the most chosen tourism golden
triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It a bustling capital city and
a business centre with all the trapping of modern metropolis but
yet flavoured strongly with an age-old charm that never fails to
surprise a traveller. The old Jaipur painted in Pink can grip any
visitor with admiration. Stunning backdrop of ancient forts
Nahargarh, Amer, Jagarh and Moti Dungri are dramatic testimonials
of the bygone era and a reminder of their lingering romance.
Agra: Agra and Taj Mahal:
The radiance of early morning is one of the best times to first
glimpse the flawless proportions of the Taj Mahal, built entirely
out of marble, by Shah Jahan, to serve as a mausoleum for his
beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The complex consists of five main
elements - the Darwaza or main gateway, the
Bageecha or garden, the Masjid
or mosque, the Naqqar Khana or resthouse and the
Rauza or the Taj Mahal mausoleum. The actual tomb
is situated inside. Most impressive are the four tall minarets
(40m/131ft high) at the corners of the structure, the majestic
dome in the middle and the black and white chessboard marble
floor.
The other monument of note in Agra is Agra Fort,
with high red sandstone ramparts. The fort houses the graceful
Diwan-i-Am, the royal pavilions, the
Hammam-i-Shahi (royal bath), the Nagina Masjid
(Gem Mosque) and the Zenana Meena Bazaar, where
the ladies of the court would linger over silks, jewellery and
brocades..
Mathura: widely known as birth place of lord Krishna is
located on the western bank of river Yamuna at latitude 27degree
41 Minute N and 77Degree and 41 Minuet E. It is 145 Km south-east
of Delhi and 58 Km north west of Agra in the State of Uttar
Pradesh. For about 3000 Year it was the hub of culture and
civilization.
Bharatpur: The legends say that the place was named as
Bharatpur after the name of Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama,
whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family deity of
the Bharatpur rulers, Laxman's name is engraved onthe state arms
and the seals. The city and the fort have been believed to be
founded by Rustam, a Jat of Sogariya clan. Maharaja Surajmal took
over from Khemkaran, the son of Rustam and established the empire.
He fortified the city by building a massive wall around the city.
